The everyday Delray attic

Blown-in insulation in Delray Beach

Most Delray houses do not need a science project. They need the attic floor brought back to R-38, the big leaks sealed, and the vents left open. That is a blown-in job, and it is usually done in a day.

Fresh blown fiberglass insulation covering a residential attic floor between wood trusses, with soffit baffles at the eaves
  • —Fiberglass or cellulose, picked for the attic, not a package
  • —Target depth is R-38 across the whole floor
  • —Baffles keep soffit vents breathing
  • —Typical published range: $1,500–$4,000

When blown-in is the right call

If the attic is vented, the air handler lives in the house, and you are losing the fight to August, blown-in on the ceiling plane is usually the honest fix. Batts leave gaps at every wire and every tight eave. Blown material fills those gaps.

We see this in Lake Ida ranches, Kings Point, Tropic Isle, and the cottages around Pineapple Grove. The insulation that was there has settled, been walked through, or was thin the day it went in.

What the crew actually does

We measure what is there, air-seal the penetrations that matter (bath fans, wire holes, the attic hatch, open chases), set baffles at the soffits, and blow to a marked depth. You can see the rulers. You do not have to trust a speech.

Fiberglass when you want it light and familiar. Cellulose when the attic wants density and the existing material plays nice with it. We say which one before the truck is loaded.

What we will not do

We will not bury a soffit vent and call the attic insulated. We will not blow over a bath fan that dumps moist air into the attic. We will not skip the hatch. A perfect attic with a bare plywood lid still leaks.
